The Dynamic Duo Tom and Mick are back!

We are super stoked to announce that In The Know On The Go is getting a new special feature:

Meet our latest editions, Tom Rookyard and Michael Corcoran - once known as “The Tom and Mick Show”.

Christmas may be over but we’ve got a very special gift for you.

Tom and Mick are coming on board to deliver a regular market update on our In The Know On The Go (ITKOTG) podcast once a month.

Every month you’ll look forward to their banter partnered with their well informed market updates, interviews with specialists and conversations with people on the ground.

In keeping with the sole purpose of ITKOTG - the stuff that matters, told to you simply - Tom and Mick want to create an easy listening regular market update platform and we’re excited to be working with them to achieve that.

So let’s get to know the brains behind The Monthly Markets with Tom and Mick.

Tom Rookyard

Tom may have rolled his ankle over the holiday season, but he’s doing well heading into 2023.

His career started after he had a “lightbulb” moment during an assignment he was doing for uni on the Australian Wheat Board.

“I was like, this is pretty bloody interesting, and started doing all my assignments on ag.”

But this wasn’t his first introduction to ag by any means.

Tom grew up in Berrima, NSW, on a 100 acre property, his dad is a wool buyer who grew up on a property out of Dunedoo, and his mum grew up out in Baradine, so they’ve “always sort of had ag in their blood.”

Despite being in and around ag for most of his life, Tom says: “I've never been sort of pushed into ag by any means.”

After working in a role at William Inglis post-uni, Tom found his way to AuctionsPlus in 2013 and spent the next seven years there.

This is where Mick enters the story. Tom and Mick had played footy together (probably) and Mick had worked with Tom’s housemate (for a little while) but it wasn’t until Mick’s showstopping job interview at AuctionsPlus that they really found each other.

“They had to do a topic [in the job interview] on something you’re really interested in, so people were coming in and they were talking about Angus cattle, and someone talked about the cropping industry, but no, Mick did it on Conor McGregor. [He] spoke about Conor McGregor for about 15 minutes.”

Tom “enjoyed” it because “everyone else had done the same old boring stuff”, and while Mick didn’t get the role, he did get another job in the company a little later on, and the duo found their stride.

Michael Corcoran

He may have acquired a pretty serious injury over the holiday season, but Mick’s positive attitude, if not just attitude, seems to be doing him wonders.

It could’ve been growing up in Glen Innes, or his stock agent father and his real estate agent mother (who ran their own stock and station agency), or even his schooling in Armidale or his university experience in Brisbane - but Mick credits his mustering experience as the real catalyst for his career in ag.

“I did a season up north for a contract mustering team, I suppose [that] is the real commencement of my foray into ag.”

He then worked in live export for Wellards, spent some time travelling and met his wife along the way. She was living in Sydney so Mick moved to the city, did a few sales roles, then found himself in an AuctionsPlus interview talking about Conor McGregor, and well, we know the rest.

“I loved AuctionsPlus, that was where I really got my confidence in a workspace. I really found my feet and really enjoyed the people I was with… but I was looking for more production experience within ag, to understand different production systems.”

So, what are Tom and Mick up to now?

They’ve packed up and moved to the country.

Tom is working as an Agribusiness Manager with ANZ in Orange, Mick is working in Corporate Agency at McCulloch Agencies in Tamworth - and we’ve got the band back together to bring you the Monthly Markets with Tom and Mick.

So sit back, relax, get your cowboy hats on and don your party shirt.
