Nedd Brockmann and Oli chat over choccy milk
On Day 2 of the Australian Dairy Conference in Tasmania this year, Oli sat down with Nedd Brockmann. The podcast linked at the bottom of this post is a live recording of that chat - it’ll feel like you were there!
In 2022, Nedd cemented his legend status by running from Perth to Bondi in 47 days, and not only that, but he raised $2.5 million for homeless charity We Are Mobilise.
As you can imagine - and as Nedd tells it - it was a gruelling experience. But through the support of his team - which turned into the support of pretty much the whole country of Australia - and his strong internal mindset, he just kept pushing.
“I hit the WA-South Australian Border, it was about 1000 kilometres [from Perth], I just crossed a state in 10 days on foot, like that's f*cking very cool. But what was really scary was the fact that Bondi was 3000 kilometres away.
So you've just had this awesome adventure, but now you've still got this ahead of you, so if I was thinking about that daunting process, it would have eaten me up.
But it was like nope, today, next day, next day, just one foot in front of the other. And I think honestly, some days it got to that point, it was like, just take another step.”
This conversation at the Australian Dairy Conference was all about getting excited by what's possible, and who better to be inspired by than Nedd Brockmann himself.
In this conversation, Nedd talks us through:
Why he’s only taking cold showers in 2023
What it was like growing up on a cattle farm
How many kilometres of fencing he put up on his gap year on the family farm
What is his why?
50 marathons in 50 days
The reality of trying to beat the record for days taken to run across the width of Australia
The team he had around him on his run and how valuable their support was, especially on the hardest days
Physical or mental pain, what’s worse?
The resilience of the agriculture industry
What does he say to himself in the mirror every day?
